DISCONNECTION INFO

The image shows a payment reminder for a water bill, with a crossed-out faucet symbol indicating non-payment or a service cut-off.

All service locations are billed MONTHLY. The “Due Date” listed on the bill is the 10th of the following month.
Per MVD By-Law 2. B. “bills are ‘due upon presentation’. Should any MVD bill remain unpaid after 30 days from the date of the invoice, the District may discontinue service as well as apply a carrying charge on the overdue account, if proper payment or arrangements have not been made. Further, the District may record a Notice of Lien in the Hillsborough County Registry of Deeds stating the name of the owner of the property, the address and the amount due pursuant to the District By-laws and Terms and Conditions. This lien shall be removed when the overdue account plus all costs and fees authorized by the District By-laws and Terms and Conditions have been paid together with reasonable costs and attorney’s fees associated with the recording of such lien."

Processing: Disconnection notices are automatically generated by the billing software based exclusively upon whether a balance remains unpaid past 30 days from the date of the invoice. Account history and prior payment patterns are not factored into this automated process.

Notifications: Disconnection Notices are sent upon processing via USPS mail as well as by automated phone call, email, and text message to all contact information on file for the account.

Courtesy Reminders: As a courtesy, MVD also sends additional notifications prior to disconnecting service.

  • Monday prior to the scheduled disconnect date: Any account that remains unpaid will be sent an automated phone call, email, and text message to all contact information on file for the account.
  • Tuesday prior to the scheduled disconnect date: A hang tag will be posted at the location of any account that remains unpaid.

Important Notes:

  • In order to prevent disconnection, payment must be received by 4:30 PM the day prior to the scheduled disconnection.
  • Should MVD arrive at the service location with the intent to disconnect water service, the disconnection fee will be charged regardless of whether payment or a payment arrangement is made in lieu of disconnection.

Reconnection:

  • If water service is disconnected for non-payment, payment of the past-due account balance as well as the disconnection and reconnection fees will be required prior to reconnection of water service.
  • Someone 18 years of age or older must be present when the water service is reconnected.
  • Water service restoration that occurs outside of Merrimack Village District’s normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM) is subject to additional charges per the Schedule of Rates.
