ADJUSTMENT & DISCOUNT INFO

MVD is a municipality; as such, the Schedule of Rates ensures fairness and equity for all customers. While no discount is provided, we may be able to offer a payment arrangement or an extension of the due date if necessary. Please contact us to discuss options.

All water that passes through the meter is considered usage and is billed, regardless of whether it was intentionally used, wasted, or lost due to a leak.
Although the water may not have been utilized for a specific purpose, it was still pumped, treated, and distributed, incurring various costs such as electricity, treatment chemicals, testing and monitoring, labor, system maintenance, and other related expenses.
While no forgiveness or discount is provided, we may be able to offer a payment arrangement or an extension of the due date. Please contact us to discuss options.
Some towns offer a discounted water rate for pool filling; this is because they also provide sewer service, which is billed based on water usage. MVD does not provide sewer service. In Merrimack, sewer is provided & charges are billed by the Town of Merrimack’s Wastewater Department. Residential sewer is charged a flat rate (not usage-based) and is billed with the property tax. Contact the Wastewater Department at 603-883-8196 or visit their website www.merrimacknh.gov/wastewater for sewer-related information.
What is an "Irrigation Meter":
An "irrigation meter", also known as a "sub-meter" or a "deduct meter", is a second water meter installed specifically to measure only the outdoor water usage that is not connected to the property's sewer system. Deduct meters are utilized to reduce the sewer bill amount, as the usage from the irrigation meter is deducted from the total usage for the sewer bill calculation.
Sewer Billing: MVD only bills for water/hydrant services. Sewer is billed by the Town of Merrimack’s Wastewater Department. Sewer categorizes bills based on whether the property is Residential or Commercial.
- RESIDENTIAL: Sewer is charged a flat-rate fee, NOT usage-based; therefore, an Irrigation Meter is unnecessary.
- COMMERCIAL: Sewer is charged based on usage. MVD provides the sewer; depending on the situation, it may be to have an irrigation meter. For additional information, please contact MVD's Operations Manager, Brian Hieken, by phone at 603-424-9241 x: 109 or via email to bhieken@mvdwaternh.gov.
